About Us

Based in Southampton, New York, En-Consultants was founded in 1980 by Roy Haje, who managed the firm until ownership was transferred in 2011 to Mr. Haje’s two longtime associates, Susanna and Robert Herrmann. En-Consultants specializes in coastal environmental planning and permit acquisition and has for more than forty years successfully managed privately and publicly sponsored development and restoration projects requiring permits from State and Federal agencies, such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and from local regulatory agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, such as the Suffolk County Department of Health Services; the Townships of Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island, Southold, Riverhead, Islip, Brookhaven, Hempstead, Huntington, and Babylon; and the Villages of Southampton, Westhampton Beach, North Haven, Sagaponack, Quogue, Lloyd Harbor, and Northport. En-Consultants has also provided environmental consulting and wetlands delineation services to the Village of East Hampton since 1992.

Robert E. Herrmann
Coastal Management Specialist

Rob Herrmann joined En-Consultants as Mr. Haje’s first full-time associate in September 1993 after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Brown University. Rob’s first experience in environmental management came in the summer of 1993 at the School for Field Studies Center for Marine Resource Studies in South Caicos, British West Indies, where he studied and conducted SCUBA research on coral reef fish biodiversity for the South Caicos National Parks System. After two years with the firm, Rob left to earn his Master of Environmental Management from the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, where he specialized in wetland ecology and the management of developed shorelines. While studying at Duke, Mr. Herrmann was employed by the Town of Southampton Department of Land Management, for whom he conducted a study that examined the effects of shoreline hardening on more than 47 miles of ocean shoreline along Long Island’s South Fork.

Since returning in 1997, Rob has provided the firm with his expertise in the management of shorefront properties, as well as his knowledge of the impacts of new or increased development near wetland ecosystems. Through Rob’s development of erosion control management plans, incorporating the use of both traditional-hard and progressive-vegetative structures, as well as his design of site plans for the relocation of threatened oceanfront homes, he has provided a myriad of erosion control solutions to shorefront landowners. Similarly, Rob’s design of mitigative buffer areas and wetland plantings plans has enabled his clients to achieve their development goals near wetlands by incorporating both practical and environmental factors. Rob is certified by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in the methodology of delineating wetlands. Rob can be contacted directly at rherrmann@enconsultants.com

Susanna F. Herrmann
Land Management Specialist

Susanna Herrmann joined the firm in May 1998 and enabled the company to expand, diversify, and improve its efficiency by focusing on environmental planning applications, such as subdivisions and commercial projects. Susanna’s experience in designing compatible development projects near wetlands, including the preparation of mitigative wetland planting plans, also provided the firm with the ability to respond to the increasing demand for wetland permits on the East End of Long Island.

Susanna attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1992. After spending the following two years as a Field Manager with the North Carolina Wildlife Federation in Charlotte and a Natural Resource Assistant with the Student Conservation Association in Utah at the Natural Bridges National Monument, Susanna earned her Master of Environmental Management at the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment in 1996. While at Duke, Susanna specialized in natural resource economics and policy and prepared a study that demonstrated the significance of incorporating cost-benefit analyses into natural resource management policies and decision-making. Susanna also spent two months in Manitoba, Canada, collecting data on the vegetation and hydrology of peat bog wetlands to determine the possible effects of global climate change on the landscape. Susanna is certified by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in the methodology of delineating wetlands. Susanna can be reached at sherrmann@enconsultants.com
